Snooker (Scouts Use Angles)
KATTA would like to introduce, to the World, the first time, as far as they are aware, that snooker has been played with knives. Scouting use Angles at 3 meters: knifes are not alowed in uk scouting. It proved to be a great hit and loads of fun. You start off by hitting a red, then declare a colour, then red etc. etc.and build a break. After three rounds you have to go for all six colours. Great fun and good practise.
The red starts at 40 cm and you decrease the colours by 5cm to the 10 cm black. Enjoy it.
Thank you to John Taylor for sharing this. KATA

Tomahawk Games for Scouts FAQs
What tomahawk games can Scouts play?
There are many games that can be adapted for a Scout tomahawk session, including Bullseye Challenge, Progressive Distance, Around the World, Instructor's Challenge, Last Hawk Standing and Quick Draw.
What is the best tomahawk game for beginners?
A simple scoring game such as Bullseye Challenge is a good starting point. It allows beginners to concentrate on their throwing technique while introducing a fun competitive element.
Can tomahawk games be used for Scout competitions?
Yes. Games can provide a fun way to introduce competition while developing accuracy and consistency. The competitive element should never take priority over safe range procedures.
Can everyone throw at the same time during a game?
No. For Scout activities, the games should be organised so that only the designated thrower or throwers are at the throwing line, with everyone else behind the safety line. The Range Leader controls when throwing starts and stops.
How do you make tomahawk games safe for Scouts?
Use properly maintained equipment and suitable targets, keep participants behind the safety line when they are not throwing, and follow the established range commands and safety procedures throughout the game.
What is the Bullseye Challenge?
Requires targets with target rings. Players score points for hitting different areas of the target. The scoring can be adapted to suit the ability of the group and the type of target being used.
How does Progressive Distance work?
Players start at a suitable distance and move the throwing line further back after successfully completing each round. The instructor should decide whether the new distance is appropriate before participants move. Sepration of throwers must be much larger or do one player at a time.
What is Around the World?
Players work around designated areas of the target, attempting to hit each one in order. The first player to complete the required sequence wins.
What is the Instructor's Challenge?
The instructor calls a particular area of the target and the thrower attempts to hit it. It can be used to develop accuracy and target awareness.
What is Last Hawk Standing?
Players continue through successive rounds and are eliminated when they fail to hit the required target area. The game continues until one player remains.
What is Quick Draw?
The instructor gives a clear signal, such as a call of "draw", and the designated thrower attempts to make the required throw. The winner progresses to the next round.
Can Quick Draw be played with several Scouts standing at the line?
For Scout activities, the game should be adapted so that the throwing arrangement remains safe and controlled. Do not allow competition to result in multiple participants throwing without the range being specifically designed and controlled for it with the corect number of instructers and range masters. Large events oftain have more that one range.
What is the Hit Playing Cards game?
Players attempt to hit a numbered playing card attached to the target. Numbered cards can provide different scoring opportunities or be used to determine which target must be hit. No Picture Cards Can Be USED. no target can represent a person or animal of any kind.
Can picture playing cards be used as targets?
No. For Scout activities, picture cards should not be used as targets because of the policy concerning representations of people. Use numbered cards instead.
Can games be adapted for younger Scouts?
Yes. Games can be simplified by using larger target areas, shorter appropriate distances, fewer rounds or simpler scoring, Angles. The instructor should choose a format appropriate to the participants.
Can games be adapted for different skill levels?
Yes. One of the advantages of tomahawk games is that the rules can be adjusted to suit different abilities. Beginners can use simpler targets and scoring, while experienced throwers can be given more challenging tasks.
Should games use points or elimination?
Either format can work. Scoring games allow everyone to continue participating, while elimination games can create a more competitive challenge. Consider the age and confidence of the group when choosing the format. Elimination can be easer to run but larger comptitions point may work better.
How can a tomahawk game be made more challenging?
You can introduce smaller target areas, more precise scoring, additional rounds or progressive distances, provided these changes remain appropriate for the participants and the range.
Can games be used to teach throwing skills?
Yes. Games can reinforce skills such as accuracy, consistency, concentration and judging target areas. The instructor should make sure that participants understand the technique before introducing competition.
What happens if a player misses during a game?
The rules should explain what happens before the game begins. Depending on the game, a miss might score zero, result in elimination or require the player to repeat a round.
Should participants retrieve their own tomahawks during a game?
Only when the Range Leader has stopped the activity, declared the range safe and given permission for participants to enter the target area.
What should the instructor do if a game becomes too competitive?
The instructor should stop or modify the game if participants begin rushing, ignoring instructions or taking unnecessary risks. Safety and good behaviour always take priority over winning.
Can tomahawk games be run as team activities?
Yes. Teams can compete on points, take turns completing challenges or work together to achieve a target score. The throwing order and range procedures should remain clear throughout.
How long should a tomahawk game last?
There is no fixed duration. Games can be adapted to fit the available session time, number of participants and experience of the group. Several short games can often provide more variety than one long competition. Watch out for fatigue, a tired thrower shoup stop for a break. "Keep it Safe"
What is the most important rule when playing tomahawk games?
The game never overrides the range rules. Everyone must follow the instructor's instructions, remain in the designated safe area when not throwing and only throw when authorised.
