Tomahawk Theory Test
Tomahawk Instructor Knowledge Test
Test Your Knowledge Before You Take to the Range
The Tomahawk Instructor Knowledge Test is designed to help learners check their understanding of the information covered throughout the online training.
The aim is to make sure that participants have a good understanding of the theory, safety procedures, equipment and responsibilities involved in running a tomahawk throwing activity before moving on to the practical training day.
How the Test Works
The test is completed online after working through the relevant learning material.
Questions are designed to test understanding rather than simply memory.
You may encounter different types of questions, including:
- Multiple-choice questions
- True or false questions
- Scenario-based questions
- Safety situations
- Range management questions
You will receive your result at the end of the assessment and a downloadable certificate.
If you do not achieve the required pass mark, you can review the learning material and attempt the relevant assessment again.
Passing the Test
Passing the online knowledge test demonstrates that you have successfully understood the required theoretical learning covered by the online course.
However, passing the online test does not make you competent to lead a tomahawk throwing activity.
Knowledge is only one part of becoming a competent instructor.
The Practical Training Day
The online course is designed to complement, not replace, practical training.
Tomahawk throwing activity leaders should have a minimum of seven hours of practical experience on a supervised throwing range before being considered competent to lead the activity.
The practical training day provides the opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills that cannot be properly assessed online.
This includes:
- Preparing a throwing range
- Checking equipment
- Delivering safety briefings
- Demonstrating throwing techniques
- Supervising participants
- Managing the throwing line
- Running activities and games
- Responding to practical situations
- Safely managing the range
- Developing confidence as an instructor
The online test checks knowledge.
The practical day develops practical skills needed.
Both are important parts of the learning process.
Learning Before the Practical Day
Our aim is to allow participants to complete the majority of the supporting theory before attending their practical course.
This can reduce the need for lengthy PowerPoint presentations during the training day and allow valuable course time to be used for supervised practical experience compleating your training in one day on the range.
Online
Learn → Study → Test
Practical
Practise → Demonstrate → Develop → Lead
This approach allows the practical training day to focus on the skills and experience that can only be gained properly on a supervised range.
Important Information
This assessment is intended as a learning and knowledge-checking resource.
Completing and passing the online test does not automatically provide a qualification, permit or authorisation to run tomahawk throwing activities.
Requirements may vary between Scout associations, governing bodies, employers and activity providers.
Before running any activity, always check the current requirements of the organisation under which you are operating and ensure that you have the appropriate training, experience, supervision and authorisation.
